The digital workplace – where next in 2021?

Digital Workplace

Stephen Homer

We’ve all cracked working from home – but what do you need to achieve real digital success?

Most business leaders agree digital transformation is a top priority, but delivering change while keeping the lights on and maintaining normal operations has long been a challenge.

This came to a head in 2020 with the COVID pandemic where a digital strategy that enables flexible and secure access to corporate data and assets became an urgent, business critical issue.

For example, at the beginning of the pandemic, one of our customers was struggling to keep pace with the rapid changes needed to transition to home working, particularly when it came to accessing key resources only available on location at the office. Understanding the urgency of the situation, we quickly helped them to assess the issue and realign their infrastructure and processes to adapt to the new normal of a remote workforce.

Between this and many other similar cases in 2020, we believe there are three critical factors to enable your workplace to succeed in the digital era and in a post COVID world:

  1. Secure by design
  2. Scalability
  3. Efficiency

Secure By Design

As an enterprise’s digital footprint increases, so too does its exposure to cyber risk, exacerbated by threat actors constantly targeting the end user, particularly with the rapid increase in remote working – as well as seeking ways to exploit core digital services such as cloud storage.

All digital solutions need to be secure by design, with continual threat monitoring and management to ensure that the entire digital estate remains protected even as it extends outside the enterprise environment and into home offices.

Scalability

Flexible as-a-service delivery means organisations can scale up and down as required. Budgeting for a price per seat on a monthly basis enables businesses to always access exactly what they need as their needs change, whether that need is due to a reduction in business scale, or to enable the running cost of a new acquisition to be understood at the onset.

Efficiency

Many organisations are wasting tens of thousands of pounds on software packages they don’t need or use.

With persona finger printing, a business’s operations can be analysed to determine exactly what services and solutions are required by individuals/groups across the different elements of any business. An in-depth analysis enables restructure to remove unnecessary solution packages and drastically reduce total cost of ownership (TCO), whilst tailoring the “Digital Workplace” to the needs of the individual.
