Twice abandoned, now in production: how Collaborate Dental built AIDMAP with Claude

Collaborate Dental, a UK dental analytics company, knew exactly what its product should be: a daily view of practice performance drawn from business, financial and marketing data. Two earlier attempts to build it, scoped at between £300,000 and £400,000, never reached production. With Getronics as its hands-on engineering partner and Claude Code as the primary engineering environment, AIDMAP is now live with several practices onboarded and a Claude-powered conversational assistant built into the product, delivered at roughly a tenth of the original cost.

Industry: healthcare
Region: UK

Collaborate Dental is a UK dental analytics company founded and led by Dr Alon Preiskel, a consultant prosthodontist. It started as a consultancy advising practices on performance and is now a software company built on the same expertise. It is a small team with limited in-house technology capability, which is where Getronics comes in.

At a glance

Customer: Collaborate Dental, United Kingdom. Dental analytics software.

Product: AIDMAP, a multi-tenant SaaS platform that turns a dental practice's business, financial and marketing data into a daily performance view. Live with several practices onboarded.

Partner: Getronics, the hands-on engineering partner on AIDMAP, covering architecture, data engineering, full-stack development, cloud and DevOps, and the CTO function.

Claude products: Claude Code as the primary engineering environment, Claude Design, and the Claude API powering the in-product conversational assistant.

Outcome: a platform previously scoped at between £300,000 and £400,000, and abandoned twice, delivered and running in production at roughly a tenth of that cost.

The challenge
A dental practice generates its performance data in systems that do not speak to each other: the clinical practice management system, the finance platform, and the marketing and web analytics stack. Owners learn how a month went weeks after it ended, from a spreadsheet assembled by hand. Groups running several sites fly blindest of all, unable to compare one practice against another until one is already in trouble.

Collaborate Dental knew precisely what the product should be, because it had produced that analysis manually for clients for years. Building it was the problem. The platform had been scoped twice before and neither attempt reached production. Both stalled in the same places: integrating disparate source systems, standardising a data model across them, and the absence of a data warehouse or any scheduled pipeline, which left reporting running over an offline spreadsheet.

The solution
Getronics worked as the engineering team on AIDMAP, and as the CTO and architecture function alongside it. Working with Claude Code as the primary engineering environment, the team delivered the portal architecture and the frontend to backend API contract, the formal architecture decisions including the security-critical analytics embedding design, dual data-source routing for practices integrated to the warehouse and practices uploading manually, and database-enforced multi-tenant isolation, so that one practice never sees another's financials.

On the data side, four disparate practice management and financial systems were unified into a single Kimball-style star schema on PostgreSQL, with standardisation and value mapping, full source tracking and lineage, and scheduled ETL pipelines. This was the step that had defeated both earlier attempts.

The product included a home dashboard with customisable KPI rows, an analytics overview with secure embedded dashboards scoped per practice, a conversational assistant, and admin tooling for per-practice visibility and country and currency configuration, all on top of a set of backend microservices. Getronics owned and ran the AWS deployment: a CDN-delivered portal, containerised microservices, and CI/CD pipelines so that changes reached production reliably and repeatably.

Inside the product, AIDMAP's conversational assistant was powered by the Claude API, called server-side so that credentials stayed secure and never reached the browser. Practice staff could ask questions about their own data in plain language, and the assistant was set to become the primary channel through which practices interrogate their performance: less reading dashboards, more simply asking.

How Claude changed the engineering
Every feature started as a written specification and an implementation plan. It was then built test-first, put through automated and human code review, and deployed through the same CI/CD pipeline. Claude Code let the team work at speed without giving up that discipline: tests stayed comprehensive, code was reviewed, architecture decisions were documented, and ideas still being explored could be prototyped quickly.

The project spanned product architecture, security, cloud and DevOps, frontend, backend and stakeholder management. Conventionally, that breadth would have needed several times the resource the team actually had.

The results
AIDMAP is live in production, with several practices onboarded and running on real daily data. The daily ETL runs automatically, multi-tenant isolation is enforced at the database, and the platform runs on a repeatable, deployed cloud stack rather than a single machine. The engagement is ongoing: both the feature set and the market reach are still expanding.

Against the £300,000 to £400,000 at which the platform had originally been scoped under an Innovate UK grant, Claude reduced the cost of building it by approximately ten times. The figure matters less as a saving than as a change in what was possible: the capability that used to be Collaborate Dental's consulting service is now its product.

Our customer says
“We had scoped this platform twice before and neither attempt reached production. What we had was the industry expertise and a clear idea of the product. What we did not have was £400,000 or an engineering department. Claude is a large part of the reason AIDMAP exists at all.”
