What if the next time you clicked on a suspicious link, your computer stopped you with real-time advice tailored to you?
Today, February 11th, is International Safer Internet Day, an opportunity for us to come together as a global community. The initiative promotes ideas to help everyone use online technology more responsibly, particularly young people, and those who care for them.
Getronics shares this responsibility, and cares for the safe and responsible use of the internet for all. Take a look at our commitments, and how you can get involved in making the online space safer for everyone.
The Importance of Safer Internet Day
The internet is a part of our daily lives. We are a world connected by the internet, and it’s used at every level of interaction. Sure, businesses, government bodies, and military forces use the internet, but so do you and I. We send messages to family and friends, watch the latest TV shows, and search for fun and obscure knowledge. It shows how the internet has found its way into every part of life.
Because the internet is so encompassing, it can come with its dangers. Cyber threats, data breaches, online harassment, and misinformation pose significant risks to large conglomerate groups, and the individual user.
This is why the theme for 2025 is “Together for a Better Internet,” which emphasizes the need for collaboration among individuals, organizations, and governments.
In 2016, the United Nations Human Rights Council put forward a resolution condemning intentional disruption of internet access by governments. The resolution affirmed that “the same rights people have offline must also be protected online.”
Recognising that internet safety is a human right.
Our Commitment to a Safer Internet
At Getronics we believe that technology should be a force for good. On this Safer Internet Day, we want to highlight the steps we take to contribute to a safer online ecosystem:
1. Prioritising Cybersecurity
Security is at the core of everything we do. We develop solutions tailored to user needs and dedicate ourselves to protecting data and privacy. We stay on the cutting-edge of technology, and keep watch over the shifting landscape of cyber threats.
2. Promoting Digital Literacy
Education is key to fostering a safer internet. We raise awareness about online safety through workshops, webinars, and resources. If you equip team members with the knowledge to identify and respond to risks, they are empowered to take control of their digital lives.
3. Advocating for Ethical Technology
We believe in the responsible development and use of technology. Our team creates solutions that ensure our products and services support user safety. We also advocate for industry-wide standards that prioritise security and privacy, such as DORA and NIS2.
4. Collaborating for a Better Internet
Safer Internet Day reminds us that no single organization can tackle the challenges of the digital world alone. We are proud to collaborate with the Global Workspace Alliance (GWA) to bring together companies from around the world to support one another and create a safer internet.
How You Can Contribute
While we are committed to doing our part, creating a safer internet is a shared responsibility. Here are some ways you can contribute:
- Educate Yourself and Others: Stay informed about online risks and share best practices with friends, family, and colleagues.
- Use Strong Security Measures: Protect your accounts with strong, unique passwords and enable multifactor authentication.
- Think Before You Share: Be mindful of the information you share online, and respect the privacy of others.
- Report Harmful Content: If you encounter cyberbullying, harassment, or illegal content, report it to the appropriate platform or authority.
- Support Digital Literacy Initiatives: Encourage schools and communities to prioritise digital literacy and online safety education.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate International Safer Internet Day, we are reminded of the incredible potential of the internet to connect, inspire, and empower. At Getronics we are committed to harnessing this potential responsibly and ensuring that our digital future is safe, and inclusive for all.
