Getronics snaps up £10 million contract extension from Bid Shopping
UK's first-ever live auction TV shopping channel invests in stable partnership to ensure its services are always available
London, 20 September 2012 - International ICT services provider, Getronics, has today announced long-standing customer, Bid Shopping, has agreed a £10 million extension of its contract.
The contract covers a number of business critical services for Bid Shopping, including hosting all of its key back office operations at the Getronics data centre in Cheshire. Due to the live nature of its programming, the station’s revenue streams are intrinsically linked to its live shows and retail operation and as such, downtime of its IT infrastructure is not an option. The extension of Bid Shopping’s existing agreement with Getronics will give the organization the confidence that its IT infrastructure will continue to be available 24/7.
The agreement will also see Getronics staff and Bid Shopping’s own IT services department working seamlessly together as one unit with unified management.
Paul Janse van Vuuren, Head of Information Systems at Bid Shopping says: “The length of time we have been working with Getronics has led to a more stable IT environment and a greater understanding of our business. Moving to the Getronics data centre has removed a number of problems and freed up a lot of time for the IT team. There have been cost savings, but knowing you have someone available to fix any IT issues at any time is far more important to us as a business, given our revenue streams. Furthermore, having a fully scalable and flexible IT system designed to cope with sudden surges of sales at certain times of the year gives us peace of mind that our infrastructure is fully able to cope with all the demands that are put on it. We also get access to the latest technology, via Getronics, without having to go through the pain and resource-intensive process of upgrading all of our own assets.”
The Getronics data centre offers customers a high-tech, high-spec alternative to hosting their own IT services and can remove a number of resource and data management headaches. This includes significantly reducing the number of high-priority calls that Getronics responds to on a day-to-day basis. As a result the Getronics team can focus on other areas of the businesses, and constantly improve efficiency.
Mark Cook, CEO UK at Getronics, comments: “Most businesses rely on their IT systems to stay fully operational, but a business like Bid Shopping feels that need more than most. For them, downtime is unacceptable. By hosting much of their critical IT systems in our data centre, Getronics is able to give Bid Shopping the peace of mind it needs, knowing that business continuity is taken care of. It is also a huge compliment to us that we are able to have our people so tightly embedded into Bid Shopping’s IT team through our onsite support.”
Janse Van Vuuren continues: “We have access to experts at the data centre whenever we need them, and if we need more servers we aren’t constrained by issues like power supply or space. Getronics’ unique support model upholds a crucial part of our business, and the longstanding relationship we have with the team gives us assurance that their solutions will deliver great results.”
Bid Shopping’s IT team is now focused on more strategic and revenue generating activities, without having to cope reactively to busy periods and spikes in demand, which can now be dealt with effectively and efficiently.
