Companies outsourcing IT functions have traditionally focused on the short term cost benefits that can be recouped from passing responsibility to a dedicated service provider. But there is now a much greater emphasis on the delivery of business and strategic value, requiring a much more far-sighted approach. Getronics Network and Desktop Outsourcing Solutions (NDOS) take full responsibility for service availability and quality for IT functions. Nevertheless, Patrick Whitten, director of the NDOS Global Competence & Marketing Center, is adamant that companies should consider the longterm implications of outsourcing before committing to it.
