 | Management Summary
Business executives, commercial staff and knowledge workers have always worked both outside and inside their traditional office environment: reading and preparing reports and summaries, making phone calls and so on. What has changed, is the degree to which these workers are now expected to remain fully connected to their business both on and off site. Access to information in realtime is now a reasonable expectation irrespective of location. Today's knowledge workers, however, expect more than access to information - they expect to be able to participate in connected business wherever and whenever it is needed.
Most enterprises are implementing mobile solutions which enable their staff, to a greater or lesser degree, to be more productive, responsive and aligned with the latest corporate events. Although mobile solutions are becoming more widely adopted in most organisations, they have not yet achieved the maturity of the desktop environment: technology standards are not set, security can be variable and user support inadequate. The challenge presented by this new mobile world for those tasked with IT management is significant.
System integrators play an important role in addressing the challenge of ensuring that the fixed and mobile worlds work smoothly together. The various mobile technologies and devices must be integrated with both backoffice systems and applications. Not only must the mobile world be fully integrated, however, it must also be supported and managed as it evolves over time.
In this paper, Getronics and Gartner reflect on the latest trends in adopting and managing mobile solutions across the enterprise.
